With the development of computer science,rigorous requests have been put forward in power system analysis software design. Because of supporting visualizing of information, Graphical User Interface is very popular, and it has become an indivisible part of power system applications nowadays. A common graphic platform was designed in this thesis using Object-Oriented software engineering ideology, visual programming language and database development utility. The evolution of computer graphics and visualization is first introduced briefly, and the application of computer graphics in power system is summarized. Based on the analysis of the disadvantages of current graphic platform for power system, the principles and functions of developing a graphic platform are put forward. Then the graphic model is achieved with Object-Oriented technology. To improve the compatibility of the platform, a graphic format transform interface is designed based on analysis of the format of DXF file. In this platform ,graphics is saved into a database, which is discussed particularly. By using ADO database components, a database access interface is designed to achieve the integration of graphics and database of other application. At the end of this paper, the application of the graphic platform in power system and some advance functions such as network topology analysis are introduced.
