With the construction and development of power system, the traditional power distribution networks architecture can’t meet the users’demand, but also to ensure stable, reliable operation of distribution network. Distribution network is the link directly connected to users in the power system, and its reliability is significant for users. In addition, a perfect, stable and reliable distribution system is a reliable guarantee to provide good service for customers. Topology analysis is one of the most essential parts of the advanced software of the Distribution Management System. All kinds of analysis and calculation application, such as power flow calculation, reactive power optimization and stability analysis, are based on it. In that case, the expression of topology model decides the flexibility and the efficiency of the analysis software.The analysis software designed in this paper is using the object-oriented visualization technology. Using of Visual C++Platform, a power system graphics software is developed. Take advantage of this software, users can create and edit a variety of power system diagrams, and build connection between graphics quickly and correctly. In use of the proprietary inheritance and encapsulation of the object-oriented method, a power system component model can be built, and the specific element can be derived from the model, therefore, all the electrical properties and topological properties will be easily managed.This paper sums the two kinds of traditional topology analysis method, the tree search method and the matrix method. According to the characters of the distribution network, the paper presents three kinds of new methods, a new topology analysis method based on BFS, a fast topology analysis algorithm based on incidence matrix, and a method based on node and branch adjacency list. The example shows the improved methods save the time of topology analysis, and are more suitable for the real-time applications.In addition, the software realized the connection with the SQL Server2000Database through the DOBC interface technology. The information of the drawing graphics can be stored in the data table, completed the graphics, models and databases establishing at the same time. The graphic information can be stored in the corresponding data sheet, when the users modify the properties of the graphics, the database will be modified correspondingly, in order to realize the interaction between graphics and the database.
