With the development of industry and agriculture, the contamination of insulator becomes increasingly serious in power supporting systems, it is easy to flash over when the humidity of the environment is heavy, which has a great effect on the reliability of power supporting systems. Embedded systems, Linux operating system, graphic user interface supporting software MiniGUI are studied in this paper, a new scheme based on embedded Linux is presented and designed to monitor and measure the contamination of the insulator in the power station.The developmental general situation of embedded system and Linux, and the research status quo of insulator contamination in domestic and foreign countries are summarized firstly in the paper; the main work and aim of the task are also introduced compactly. Then, the embedded Linux operating system is designed for the monitoring and measuring system; the process of designing embedded Linux and transplanting MiniGUI to the Linux is introduced in detail. As the three important parameters: leakage current, temperature, and humidity are needed, the driver of PCI data acquiring card for Linux is developed, with the driver, Linux can read, write and control the card. MiniGUI and C language are used to develop the application program, which is of real time monitoring and measuring, searching data, real time alarming and drawing history curves. The application program also has friendly human-machine interface. In order to realize the remote monitoring and measuring, the embedded web server Boa is transplanted to the embedded Linux system, by developing the CGI program and HTML file, the data from the remote terminal can be monitored easily by the IE explore in the LAN with the B/S method.In conclusion, proved by experiment, the on-line monitoring and measuring scheme of insulator contamination presented and designed in the paper is feasible. The entire system is only 15MB in volume, stored in the flash disk. It is running well in the lab now.
