As the rapid development of aerial weapon systems, air combat simulation is becoming more and more important for evaluation and design of modern fighter. According to the diversity objectives of fighter's evaluation, different air combat simulation methods were developed. The fighter's design phase and accessibility of fighter's configuration parameters are the main factors that affect the selection of simulation method.Among these methods, automatic air combat simulation is an effective method which human is not in the simulation loop. This method is adaptable as well as objective. In addition, by using simplified models, automatic air combat simulation is able to simulate with fighters whose detail parameters are inaccessible. So, this method is suitable for the evaluation of fighters in conceptual design phase.Besides the dynamic model of subsystems of fighter, the behavior of pilot should be simulated in automatic air combat simulation system. The main frame and key models of automatic air combat are discussed in this paper. The main works of this paper are as follows:First, the main frame of automatic air combat is constructed, and the models of fighter and its subsystems are discussed. Target assignment model based on threat coefficient matrix is also built.Secondly, two maneuver control models are discussed, and control algorithms of typical maneuvers are implemented based on the models.Thirdly, according to the characteristics of modern air combat, the maneuver decision model is built. Based on this model, a maneuver decision system is implemented using the method of expert system. Finally, a multi-aircraft automatic air combat system is developed based on the models above. Some issues such as evaluation of fighter's combat effectiveness, selection of fighter's design parameters are discussed by using this system.
