The traditional control method in street lamp monitoring system is unhandy and the system is difficult to manage and maintain. To solve these problems, many communication methods' application in remote monitoring system are surveyed in this paper and a current wireless supervisory control and data acquisition system based on GSM network is designed. With GSM network as the platform of data transmission, the system has merits of widely covered network, high reliability, strong ability of anti-jamming and small investment. Actualization scheme, control center and RTU's software and hardware construct are given in the article. Some key knowledge on SMS, such as sending mode and format of PDU data, are anatomized. As for remote monitoring of street lamp, considering small quantity of data and lack of requiring for real time, SMS is choosed to transmit our data. The remote street lamp monitoring system based on GSM short message is consist of control center ,RT35 and SL30 light controller. Due to the real-time monitoring of control center, supervisor can see running status of lamps. Message of controller's malfunction will be reported forwardly, so the trouble can be treated quickly. The system can reduce laboring intensity, prolong natural life of lamps, cut down energy consuming, so is provided with high economic value. In the paper, the system overall structure is elaborated with emphasis on system hardware design and software programming of RT35. The dependability of data transmitting via SMS is thoroughly researched and at the end some deficiencies of the system are explained.
