Energy and environment protection is a new challenge of whole human being. To construct sustainable developmental harmonious society will ulteriorly accelerate the development and innovation of wall materials. Our innovation aim in construction field is to replace conditional clay solid brick with new wall material in order to protect tillable field, save energy and protect environment. Integrate bearing, heat preservation and decoration into one, the new hollow block transfers vertical stress by two big lumens. According to national sustainable development strategy, it is a new commercial and industrialized wall material. The design sketch in the paper has got patent certification in China, but its mechanical characteristic and structural optimization has not been researched.After investigation on national and international research history and today's status of hollow block, importance and existed problems of hollow brick in new wall structure is fully described, then a finite element model of hollow brick is built. With ANSYS software, modeling, mesh, mechanic analysis were done to get deformation, strain and stress distribution of a hollow brick with fixed bottom under uniform load on top, then its strength capability was assessed.With structure optimization method, constrained by maximum strain, an optimization model of hollow brick with minimum volume as objective was built.Optimization calculation of the suggested model was realized by zero order optimization method in ANSYS environment. Optimized solutions with 1, 3 and 5 optimization variables were got respectively, and lighter design sketch with reasonable cavum distribution is suggested. According to above researches, conclusions are drawn as follows:1. Compare to clay solid bricks on mechanics, heat preservation and economy, the advantage of the new concrete hollow blocks is conspicuous.2. According to the mechanics characteristic of the parametric finite element model of hollow brick built in the paper under uniform load on top, the stress and strain results to be used in strength design and assessment was obtained.3. It was found that the most optimized design does not related to the model with the most design variables.Optimization design method and calculation program in the research can be used in other brick optimization design research with different brick shape.
