In this text, grey prediction method has been introduced in the design of synchronous generator excitation regulator. The pilot study of grey prediction cell's characteristic and improvement effect of autocontrol system capability has been done. And grey prediction PID excitation control for improvement effect of power system stability has been researched. Hardware and software of excitation regulator based on DSP has been designed.Firstly, the conception of grey system and the arithmetic of grey prediction have been recommended. And grey prediction cell's characteristic and improvement effect of autocontrol system capability has been analysed. The analysis indicates that grey prediction's effect is possible unideal under saltation signal, but under nonsaltation signal prey prediction possibly provides well signal current prediction. The grey prediction has been applied representative two order system, and we have found it remarkably improved system's stability.Secondly, the configuration of synchronous generator grey prediction PID excitation control configuration and MATLAB simulation model have been founded. And the control effect comparison between grey prediction PID+PSS excitation control and PID+PSS excitation control under different disturbance has been done. The simulation results show that grey prediction PID+PSS excitation control is better than PID+PSS excitation control, because its exceeding quantity and regulating time under different work condition are all smaller and shorter. And it provides valuable reference information for the synchronous generator excitation control application of grey prediction PID control. And we also have discussed some problems: the exit of grey prediction under stable work condition, reasonable selection of sample time and prediction step, and achieved valuable acknowledge.Thirdly, the hardware and software of excitation regulator based on DSP have been designed. Hardware composing parts include: DSP periphery circuit design, A/D conversion interface circuit design, frequency track locking circuit and impulse producing circuit design.Finally, the software is programmed under the developing environment of CCS2.0 (Code Composer Studio ) produced by TI company, so it realized modularized program design, and it is also convenient for debugging online. Its main program has carried out following calculation: basic electric parameter, regulating difference, grey prediction PID control, confining and protecting, moving vector triggering angle and so on. And interrupt program has finished collection and storage of data, measuring of frequency, shaping of triggering pulse and so on.
