Process planning is the bridge that links product design with manufacture. As the computer realizing way for process planning, CAPP is the pivotal technology to realize the integration between CIMS and CAD/CAMHowever not only the application or the study but also the development of CAPP relatively lags behind CAD and CAM. It's one important cause of the phenomenon that developing the CAPP system without uniform criterion. The way to develop universal CAPP systems won't achieve if we don't develop the system according to uniform criterionTo development the standard and universal CAPP system, not the technology of standardization and the technology of modularization but the technology of computer are used sufficiently through the whole process of process planning of parts. Many databases about standard working procedure, equipment, remainder, and criterion of process are builded. The system named JZ-CAPP system that is standard and universal is developed primarily.The idea that repository is separated from ratiocination in expert systems is used for reference in the process of craft decision based on the aim of system and on the need of function. By the need of the mode of decision that based on database we presented, the expression and deposit of knowledge about craft is realized by relation data model. To the description of parts information, we integrate the characteristic of rotational parts with the need of process planning to information input, and design the model of parts information by the idea of description of elements of shape.
