Combined with the national 863 project "A Collaborative system for product design, manufacturing and measurement based on the SML-ProNet (No. 2005AA411910) " and major research project of Zhejiang "Research on Product Design and Product Management Information System for Quick Respond Customer Demand and its applying in Auto part (No. 2004C11004)", the methodology for part modeling supporting process variant design and the key issues in process variant design based on SML are investigated orient to part family. And a system for process variant design is developed.Chapter 1, the paper's research background, field, target and value are discussed. Analyse the relative reseach status both home and abroad, get the conclusion that the technology of part variant design in geometrical dimension is comparatively mature, but it is weak in process variant design. Finaly get out the main content of this dissertation and the structure.Chapter 2, discusses the technology of process variant design as a whole. Using the axiomatic design proposes the methods and the process of process variant design of parts based on SML. The key issues of parts' process variant design include the modeling technology orient to process variant design and the variant technology based on SML.Chapter 3, part family modeling technology orient to process variant design is studied. The part familiy models include geometrical model and process model. The geometrical modeling consist of geometrical figure modeling, process feature modeling and construct the tabular layouts of article characteristics. The process modeling includes manufacturing process and working procedure modeling, and then we construct the relationship of geometrical model and process model by assembling the manufacturing features.Chapter 4, the variant technology of process based on SML is studied. The process variant design based on SML consists of three aspects: parts' geometrical dimension change, process change and working procedure change. Discuss the parameters drive principle from SML to parts' process model variable.Chapter 5 and Chapter 6, separately discuss the system's design scheme, develop method and the application example.Chapter 7, summarize and prospect to this dissertation.
