Based on lots of investigation and analysis of the internal and overseas Status Monitoring and Fault Diagnosis, especially on many hand-held instruments, this paper combines with hardware platforms of MSP430 and S3C2410A, and the technology of embedded Linux OS, puts forward an application scheme. This scheme accomplishes a hand-held vibration-monitoring device, which tends to be low-cost, low consumend power, real-time analysis, field diagnosis and easily use. The device is consist of two parts: one is the Data Acquisition System based on MSP430F149 CPU ( the lower part ), and another is the Data Processing System based on S3C2410A CPU ( the upper part ). They transmit data each other by a UART to USB chip PL2303. The paper emphasizes the hardware & software design of the Data Acquisition System, and its testing, the field experitment, and how to add and use the Data Acquisition System device driver based on PL2303 under the Data Processing System based on the embedded Linux OS.In chapter 1, the state-of-the-art of Status Monitoring and Fault Diagnosis is summarized, after that the deficiency is analysized, and the solved method of a hand-held vibration-fault diagnosis device based on Host/Slave double CPU structure (MSP430 and S3C2410A) is presented. At last, the content and signification is simply introduced.In chapter 2, introduces the correlative knowledge of embedded system, discusses the system scheme, and illustrates how to select the embedded processor and the embedded operation system.In chapter 3, firstly introduces the hardware & software design of the Data Acqusition Sytem based on MSP430F140 processor and PL2303 inteface; then uses the HP5550 PDA as the upper part to test the performances of the lower part.In chapter 4, represents the basic flow of developing application software on the hardware platform for data-processing, includeing how to establish the embedded system cross-development environment, add user's code and complie it.In chapter 5, firstly represents the relation of USB interface between the upper part and the lower part; then introduces how to develop the device driver based on PL2303 Data Acquisition System; at last illustrates how to use the drives.At last, the content is summarized, and the issue waiting for resolving in the further is given.
