The three capital parts of simulation system of thermal power station are interface, communication and simulation modal. The good configuration software can combinate the three pars well to simulate the fact system of thermal power station. The design and implementation of configuration software for simulation system of thermal power station is a complex engineering. This paper describes the whole frame and design of configuration software. Based on VC++ 6.0, a prototype of such kind of software PSCS (Plant Simulation Configuration System) is realized.PSCS can be divided into following components: graphic configuration system and running system, real-time database system, communication system. The paper mainly discusses the design of graphic system and real-time database system. And it preliminarily discusses the design of communication system.On the base of reference to some famous domestics and overseas products,several parts in PSCS are designed.(1) Different from two-layers architecture of normal configuration software, using three-layers architecture (Presentation Layer, Business Layer, Data Layer) to design configuration software.(2) We have designed graphic configuration module making use of Object-Oriented technology and Factory Pattern technology. Graphic class and graphic tool class are designed. The functions of drawing and editor are accomplished. Meanwhile expandable graphic unit is defined, and animation function is accomplished. Also using ActiveX technology to accomplish second development, and using ActiveX Scripting technology to accomplish script function.(3) We have accomplished graphic running system. This system provides information of graphic and script that are made in process of graphic configuration for user.(4) Object-Oriented model for real-time database is designed, using relational database, file management system and memory database to store and control all kinds of datas that confirm different access requirement. Using dynamic linking to accomplish real-time database.(5) The read-write soft I/O module is designed. Using FileMapping technology, we have resolved the question that how to communicate with simulation modal software and have achieved purpose for simulation system of thermal power station.Different from normal configuration software, PSCS is small, flexible, opened, expansible, manageable and reusable. PSCS supports widely communication interface of all kinds of soft. PSCS is applicable to simulation system and all kinds of on-line performance monitoring or analysis system. The realization of the whole frame and capital function modules set up a good basic to continue this project's research and development.
