China has abundant water resources with long coastline and numerous harbors and rivers, lakes and reservoirs scattered all over the country like stars in the sky. Because a cutter suction dredger can continuously excavate and transport the dredged material, it has extensive adaptability in projects of rivers, lakes, harbors and waterway dredging. However for a variety of reasons, at present China is short of the experiment conditions for dredging research.The main contents of this paper related to the development of dredging experimental platform are as follows: the cutterhead three-dimensional solid modeling based on Pro/E, the supervisory control system of soil-cutting experiment and the debugging operation of the experimental system. According to the cutterhead structural characteristic, two methods of the cutterhead three-dimensional solid modeling are proposed. And an experimental model cutterhead has been made successfully by the three-dimensional solid models. Objects of the dredging experimental supervisory control system include the subsystems of machinery, hydraulic transmission, electricity, hydraulic transport, etc. To meet the demand of reliable data-collection speed and steady remote data transmission, the WinCC software is adopted to compile superior-computer monitoring program and the PLC developing software is employed to compile inferior-computer control program in the experimental system. The OPC data communication technology is also used in the system.The trial experiment of the system indicates that the expected goals have been reached in this paper, and therefore the research has provided a good experimental platform for studying the properties of soil-cutting and the characteristics of a cutter suction dredger in the future.
