With rapid development of cities in China, the instruction of municipal facilities is always built frequently, especially urban drainage pipe networks system. The velocity and the scale of instruction are astonishingly so that it is difficult to manage this system by conventional method, therefore, we need to build up a modern information management system, which can meet with the needs of administration department, design department and building department. However, this system is good at data management and spatial analysis, and it can also go with other information management systems, such as network modeling system, water quality monitoring system, and so on. It is expected that the Drainage pipe networks information management system would be an effective tool to urban drainage network management.Drainage pipe networks information management system is an integrated system of spatial information and non-spatial information on the basis of Geographical Information System (GIS) technology. The objectives of this dissertation are system analysis and design of Information System for Urban Drainage Network. It is divided into three parts, Geographic Information System for Urban Drainage Network, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems, and Drainage Networks' Modeling. This paper analyzes demands of the software and brings design objectives of its functions and capabilities, and the principles in the process of design, then puts forward objects of the management, and their scenarios of implementation. The next step, this paper brings forward objects of the management, and their methods of sorting, organizing and managing, and then design function and their scenarios of implementation. In which, elements of data management and their characteristics and relations are concluded by frame, operational traits and forceful factors of drainage network. With schemes of optimization and security mechanisms, database in relational model is used to keep data in this software, and data is organized by lays and codes. The concept, type and application fields of drainage networks' modeling are introduced, and makeup of the mathematical models for modeling the drainage networks is elaborated. The modeling principles of drainage networks are analyzed. The historical evolution and drainage networks' modeling in China are also reviewed.
