With rapid development of cities in China, urban drainage network is expanding quickly in developing areas and rebuilt in large scale in the existing areas. At the same time, it meets higher requirement in operation effect and controlling level. Nevertheless, part of data about infrastructure had been lost, methods to collect information about network are ineffective, and managerial ladders are relatively outdated. However, GIS (Geographic Information System) is good at data management and spatial analysis, and it can be data-exchange-flat of other information management systems, such as network modeling system, water quality monitoring system, and so on. It is expected that GIS would be an effective tool to urban drainage network management.The objectives of this dissertation are system analysis and design of Geographic Information System for Urban Drainage Network. According to actual situation of management and characteristics of GIS, Geographic Information System for Urban Drainage Network should combine primary functions of GIS with some special one, such as producing professional schematics and tables, special spatial analysis, etc. to promote management on drainage network. This paper analyzes demands of the software and brings design objectives of its functions and capabilities, and the principles in the process of design, then puts forward to proper tools to develop the software and its frame. The next step, this paper brings forward objects of the management, and their method of sorting, organizing and managing, and then design functions and their scenarios of implementation. In which, elements of data management and their characteristics and relations are concluded by frame, operational traits and forceful factors of drainage network. With schemes of optimization and security mechanisms, database in relational model is used to keep data in this software, and data is organized by lays and codes. After discussed data management, this paper puts forward to design and implementation method of functions of the software.By introducing Geographic Information System for Urban Drainage Network in ZJcity, the paper expounds the process of design and implementation of Urban Drainage Network Geographic Information System. This software has met economical and technical demands in the process of management.
