DTII (A) Belt Conveyor is a universal transportation equipment. It is mainly used in metallurgy, mining, coal, port, power plant and other industrial enterprises. Based on the study of design and type-selection process of DTII(A) Belt Conveyor, this paper developed a practical CAD system on the platform of AutoCAD by using of VB, VisualLISP and VBA as well as VFP databases.Starting from the application and development of DTII(A) Belt Conveyor, the practical application level of CAD software and the necessity of the CAD system development were analyzed for this type of belt conveyor first in the paper. Then, the constructural components and the relative design theories of the belt conveyor were introduced briefly and the functional requirements for the CAD system were analyzed. The classification of the modules in the system was presented. Furthermore, the system databases were established by using VFP and the assembling drawing base and part drawing base were established respectively. By VB programming, the functions of design and type-selection were realized and the results were output in the form of designing specifications. Finally, the design and type-selection results were read by VisualLISP program and the assembling and parts drawings can be generated automatically in AutoCAD, and the list of the assembling drawing can be output to EXCEL.By combining VB, VisualLISP and VBA with AutoCAD, the system developed in the paper provides the functions of primitive parameters input, calculations, type-selection, the design results and type-selection output, drawing, etc., which would have broad prospects. The system developed could not only increase the accuracy of calculations, shorten the design and type-selection period, lighten the work intensity of the designers, but also would be helpful to the further development of CAD system for other types of belt conveyors.
