Against the development in hydraulic turbine's field and the need of engineering practice, the research on exploiting the software package for the type-selection design of reaction turbine is developed. The database for the software package is adopted to manage these data for the type-selection design of reaction turbine. The software cannot only make combined characteristic curve display in computer's screen, but also it can complete the type-selection design of reaction turbine, and draw the operating range and performance curve of real turbine.The paper is based on the theory about the type-selection design of reaction turbine and drawing performance curve of real turbine. The mathematics model on the type-selection design of reaction turbine and drawing performance curve of real turbine is introduced. And so this software system is divided into three parts: part I, creation & management of the database for the type-selection design of reaction turbine; part II, the type-selection design of reaction turbine, including the interpolation: one is to be interpolated to figure out existing model turner data which don't directly lie in the database according to similarity theory, another is to be interpolated to figure out new model turner data according to existing model turner data and similarity theory. part III, drawing combined characteristic curve, and the operating range and performance curve of real turbine. The main functions of this software package are basic data management, characteristic data management, the interpolation of characteristic data, the type-selection design of reaction turbine, combined characteristic curve and performance curve to draw, and so on. This software package is exemplified to be feasible and correct, and is intuitionistic, simple, reliable, and easy to upgrade and maintain.During the course of the research, the following achievements is obtained:1. The mathematics model on the type-selection design of reaction turbine and drawing performance curve of real turbine is created, then the functional modules and composition of this software package is acquired.2. The database for the type-selection design of reaction turbine is built in Microsoft Access, the database is convenient for invoking and managing of the data for the type-selection design; and make the type-selection design feasible.3. Adopting orient object method(OO) and open database connectivity(ODBC) technique, the software package for the type-selection design of reaction turbine isexploited in Visual C++.4. The interpolate method that is in polar coordinate system is researched, it is liable to deal with the characteristic data(for example, combined characteristic curve). This method is acknowledged to be feasible and correct, and get expectant purpose.5. The idea that new model turner data, such as combined characteristic curve, are interpolated to figure out according to existing model turner data is proposed to meet the need of practical circumstances in hydropower station, and actively promote the development of hydraulic model.
