With the separate of producing and sealing of electricity, more and more attentions have been paid on the economy factor in the power plant. Now most of the plants have used the Distributed Control System (DCS) to control their devices. But for the safe reason, There is little of the DCS venders has integrated the efficiency compute software in their control system,just leave some software or hardware interface for this work. In order to prove the running efficiency of plant control system, it is necessary to design a kind of real-time economic analysis software on line to compute the device running efficiency. There is a large space in the power plant in energy saving factor.In the DCS system, a lot of running data were stored. We can use these data to do some calculation. A configuration software tool based on COM technology and power plant thermal system theory was designed in this paper. First some technologies associated with the data communication between the different programs were analyzed such as COM - Component Object Module, OPC - Ole For Process Control. Secondly the major running thermal systems and important devices especially the boiler,turbine,generator,some kind of heater in the power plant were studied. Some calculation modules were established to make the calculation easily.Finally using object-oriented based visualization techniques,Rational Rose software analysis tool,UML techniques a class library for typical components and modules of the thermal power system were designed. Most of the theories were turned to real software object.All of the objects and modules combined the power plant unit on line real time efficiency calculation software. The software can be applied to configure many kinds of steam power plant systems.
