Elementary Research On Space Form Of Pedestrian System

The dissertation is a theoretical research of urban design. Analyzing the construction of pedestrian space in cities, we advance a network mode of pedestrian system which suits urban development. This research integrates the construction of urban pedestrian system with humanity and sustainable development of city, and also with other urban systems. Constructing the system of urban pedestrian runs through urban planning and design.Based on lots of recent productions and references, the research analyzes some representative cases, and makes a plan and design of urban pedestrian system by means of humanized ideas, system theory and typology. This research emphasizes the relationship of each constituents of urban pedestrian system. The dissertation tends to make a more comprehensive research of urban pedestrian system than others, for the development of 21-century architecture and city planning cannot be limited in a small scope and synthesis is their kernel.This dissertation includes four parts: asking the question, analyzing the question, answering the question and conclusion. First, proceeding with the problems of city planning in China, the dissertation analyzes the disadvantages of our urban pedestrian system and the causes of those disadvantages. In this part, there is also a survey of the situations and tendencies of the development of pedestrian space in domestic and overseas down towns. Second, through the research of related theories and practices, utilizing system theory and typology, we make an elementary research on space form of pedestrian system in cities. Third, based on the analysis of its patterns in macro and microcosmic perspectives, and the studies of many examples, the dissertation provides a method of reconstructing the pedestrian system which can suit our city development. The method can be used to solve the city problems. Then our cities will certainly be a paradise for citizens.
