Referring to the the traits of water-lacking and "rain-fed farming" in agriculture in the mountainous area of southern Ningxia, combined with the similar results of water resources utilization in the south mountainous area by the department of soil and water conservation in Ningxia as well as the similar results on the Loess Plateau, we explored and studied the pattern of efficient-using water resources combined dam and pit in Niejiagou Watershed in Xiji County for more three years cooperated with scientific research department. In the paper, a new means of utilizeation water, i.e. the pattern of eficient using water resource combined dam and pit through the comprehensive utilization of "three water" is summarized. Based on the conventional comprehensive harnessing of small watershed, the water and soil resources potential of small watershed was studied and exploited too. The type of small watershed can be transformed from ecotype to zoology-economy type. Therefore, the project was in favor of farmland irrigateion, developing yard economy and riching the farmers. The pattern of efficient-using water resources combined dam and pit has been brought into effect in Pengyang and Haiyuan model area. If the project is put in practice, it will settle the problems that utilization rate and efficient of water resource are low. Compared with conventional pumping irrigation, the project can effectively distribute water resource, and make use of water resource to supplement irrigation in key periods when plants need water, and also solve the bottle-neck problem that plants lack water in spring. Compared with conventional dry farming, water-saving irrigation technology is adopted. Then the moisture which plants need is effectively offered. The utilization efficient of moisture and food yield is raised. At the same time, water-saving irrigation type and its irrigation indexes, fitting crop breed, proper agriculture technology and so on which are advisable to the mountainous area in southern Ningxia. The developement direct of zoology agriculture which was brought forward in this paper is summarized by practices. Compared with current agriculture produce, its production will be largely improved. Therefore the research fuits are relative in advance. The main research results in this paper is as follows:1. Researched and summarized pattern of eficient using water resource combined dam and pit of the first-stage and the second-stage pumping water.2. Advanced the overall arrangement of project under different patterns of eficient using water resource combined dam and pit3. Put forward the methods of running and managing the pattern of eficient using water resource combined dam and pit; and verified the methods by applying they in practice.4. Stated the related agriculture measures to the technology of eficient using water resource combined dam and pit and agriculture development direction.
