The manufacturing of Car-Body in white is a very complicated process and numerous parts, welding fixtures, equipments are involved in. The craft conceptions are also complicated. Currently foreign Auto Corporations used craft planning software to manage information of Body-in-white production line. This kind of software provided a network environment and some tools to do craft planning, craft optimization, simulation. Craft planner can easily and quickly finished craft planning ,also shared and exchanged information with other technicians. But domestic Auto Corporations haven't developed a real Body-in-white craft planning software. Their craft planning works still do by manual and fall behind foreign corporations. Although a few domestic corporations imported craft planning software from foreign, the software price is very expensive and training fee is high. This increased production cost and lowered their competition ability on the market.In order to change this condition and raise the efficiency and quality of domestic craft planning, Shanghai Volkswagen united with Tongji University to develop Body-in-white production line planning system.This paper discussed development of knowledge-base for Body-in-white production line planning system.First this research analyzed the character of Body-in-white production line and set up whole frame of Body-in-white production line planning system.The whole system includes parts management, manufacturing resource management, project craft planning management, welding management, reports management and user management. Then the user process planning, the software platform design, hardware and network platform designs followed.Based on whole system frame, knowledge-base concept design, logic design and physical design began. During concept design all entities involved in production line are extracted and established their relation. The final ERD (entity relationship model diagram) and system datum dictionary are given through data sheets normalization during logic design and physical design. Finally knowledge-base system is developed using Visual C++ as tools and SQL Server2000 as database software.
