Along with the high-speed development of battery industry, especially secondary battery industry, the requirement of battery test instruments is becoming higher and higher. On this background, Shenzhen Roofer Electronics Ltd. develops a new kind of embedded system for battery test in order to catch up with the developing tendency of advanced technology. The system is based on ARM on hardware designing and VxWorks that has the best real-time performance on software designing. So the battery test instruments have improved greatly in reliability and real-time.As a member of the workgroup, the main works of this paper is to design a sub-system, which will display the testing data of battery and control the testing process, and some basis application for communication between the main system and the sub-system with the full learning of the battery test. S3C4510B of Samsung takes a key role in the mid-position computer designing and the software is developed mainly in Tornado, an integrated developed environment of embedded real-time operating system VxWorks. The subsystem is based on 51 MCU and the software is developed in Keil environment. TS240128, with graphic control chip T6963C embedded, is selected as the LCD for GUI. Finally the test between the main system and the sub-system is successful and the full off-line function is realized.In this paper, the main system mainly involves the Multitasking and Interrupt Programming under VxWorks, the hardware design of the main system, the basis driver of UART and Flash, the space division of the Nvram and Flash, the software flow to communicate with sub-system. As to subsystem, it mainly involves the hardware design, the design of test interface, the whole thinking of the software design. In addition, in order to simplify design and realize reliable communication, the encapsulation of SLIP is adopted in the communication between the main system and sub-system, including the check sum and process.
