With the increasing of traffic and heavy vehicle, bleeding and rutting are the most commonly observed pavement distresses in highways. Recent years, many asphalt surfaces are afflicted by rutting damages. It will affect not only driving comfort but also the driving security.The surface mixture is directly contacted with surroundings and stays in critical level in whole pavement structure. In China, pavement design prefers enhancing the modules of subgrade to decreasing depth of surface. This raises a high requirement of surface properties. Recently SMA13 and Sup13 with modified binder become popular wearing asphalt mixtures in China for their performance and functional properties especially on heavy traffic roads. But there are less comparing of these mixtures. In this research, the rutting resistances of the three mixtures are generally tested. Round track test is used as the final step to evaluate the performance.There are many factors that can affect the rutting. Based on the rutting research project cooperated with Jiangsu Province Freeway Construction Headquarters, the influences of binder type, binder content, aggregate gradation, temperature and load to SMA13, AK-13A and Sup13 are generally analyzed by rutting test, rutting test in water and round track test. On rutting resistance and stripping, modified binder have great advantages. Rich modified binder content(<0.5%) is not a hazard to the performance of mixture. The round track test result shows that under high temperature and heavy load condition, SMA13 and Sup13 are superior to AK-13A. On the rutting resistance the high viscosity modified bitumen confected in mixture plant has the best performance.
