Building energy efficiency has become a worldwide concern considering increasing building energy consumption which has become a serious modern day problem, energy consumption. To insure environment-friendliness, there is a tendency, internationally, for building products to be green and sustainable, highlighting such aspects as high performance, energy-effectiveness and life-cycle management intensity. This entails effort for recycling buildings. Lagging behind in energy efficiency renovation, China now badly needs a breakthrough at this point for its existing buildings. Most of the residential buildings in the country's vast heating areas are energy-wasting, and strategically taken as subjects in this paper. It consists of the following three parts:1. It is mainly a review justifying the necessity and urgency to carry out energy efficiency renovation on existing buildings in heating areas. Background information is provided in terms of energy crisis, China's existing building energy consumption, and improvement of residential building comfortability. Besides, an analysis is made as to successful international practice, from which China may draw some insights to the exploration of its own potential.2. A comparatively analyzed theoretical basis for energy efficiency renovations of the walls, roofs, windows, etc, and secondly, energy efficiency measures to compensate for deficiencies in current energy-efficient building design. Detailed research is done as regards thermal change impact on energy consumption, and thermal change impact is more obviously found in out walls, roofs and windows.3. Chapter five explains the significance and functions of building energy simulation, and introduces many soft wares. DeST is carefully discussed here. Chapter six focuses on quantitative calculation, making simulation calculation on building energy consumption before and after energy efficiency renovation. Thus, renovation measures prove to be practical but still need improvement.Through quantitative analysis of the practicability and effectiveness of energy efficiency renovation, this paper presents reliable guide to renovations of existing residential buildings in heating areas, complementary to the relative theories and datareference and paving the way for further researches in China's building efficiency performance.
