The Buckling-Restrained-Brace (BRB) is a kind of vibration reduction brace element. Nuclear steel brace can reach full yield under tension and pressure, it takes on better ductility because of the stable and full hysteresis loop of a BRB. BRBs with low yield stress yield and dissipate energy on the small displacement level. In this paper the soft steel brace whose yield point is 100MPa will be discussed. BRBs currently has been accepted and used in Japan and the United States. With more deep study about BRBs applied to multi-story and tall buildings, it is initial starting to apply the study to long-span spatial reticulated shell structures. Lattice shell structrue usually has the larger rigidity especially under static loads,but when the span becomes larger, it may generate oversize response to special earthquake load.Therefore, vibration reduction study abaut it is quite necessary.Specically long-span spatial reticulated shell structures are usually representative and important buildings. Merit and deficiency of seismic design method for these buildings are related to safety of enormous people lives as well as substantial national economy and property. Therefore, significance of vibration reduction design for them is quite obvious. BRBs'applicability for vibration reduction of single layer cylindrical lattice shell structure will be studied in this paper.The main content are as follows:(1), Based on three factors— vibration reduction rate about inner forces, vibration reduction rate about displacement and energy dissipation capability of BRBs, BRBs'applicability for vibration reduction of single layer cylindrical lattice shells supported at four sides will be discussed and researched .Conclusions and data valulable to engineering design are drawn ,the main ones of which are as follows: how to sellect BRBs, how to arrange BRBs, vibration reduction performance of BRBs.(2), Analyze influencing factors for vibration reduction performance of BRBs. Influencing factors consist of the ratio of height to span , the ratio of span to length, cross sectional area of nuclear steel brace, stiffness of shell itself and yield stress of BRB.(3), Compared by single layer cylindrical lattice shell without BRBs , rigidity,stability under static loads and self-oscillation performance of the single layer cylindrical lattice shell with BRBs will be researched.(4), Analyze vibration reduction performance of single layer cylindrical lattice shells supported at two sides with BRBs and compare vibration reduction effect by the traditional earthquake-resistance effect.
