The development of automobile industry is challenged by the more serious pollution and the shortage of petroleum in the world. For satisfying the increasing demand of environmental protection and sustainable development, the environment-friendly clean vehicle is called for to replace the combustion one which exhausts the irreproducible mineral resources and even worse, heavily pollutes the air.Without using any mineral fuel, the compressed air engine (air-powered engine), which outputs the mechanical energy transformed from the compressed air energy into the torque form, is of completely green and zero pollution emission. In this paper, the compressed air engine based on electronic control of injection is developed based on the national and international research state and the experience of self, which is presented by our research team. The main research work describes as follows.1,Summed up the first round of research into the compressed air engine of which the valve train system controlled by mechanism, a design scheme of the compressed air engine based on electronic control of injection, in allusion to the working principles of the compressed air engine and features of the energy release of compressed air.2,The hardware of compressed air engine management system is designed, made and debugged. Sensors and actuators are selected properly.3,The software of compressed air engine management system is designed, programmed and debugged. And proper intake control strategies are confirmed under different conditions.4,The single cylinder compressed air engine of electronic control of injection, which is the proto-engine of single-stage expansion. Comprehensive engine test bench is built, and experiments on the bench are finished.
