The container transportation system has the features of intensive service network distribution, long transportation routes, wide ranges of customers. Moreover, it is time-bounded; great variety in billes and docment, highly frequent circulation and it requires good data. In those countries with highly developed logistics industry and the coastal areas of China, the management information system have already been applied to the whole container transportation process, which has played an important role in expanding the company's business, enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency. However, Hunan province is an inland one and its application to information technology lags far behind the requirement of rapid growth the container volumes. At the same time, its corresponding software is less developed than the hardware concerning ships and container terminals.Being faced the severe competition among businesses, like the traditional ship agencies and international freight forwarding, the market shares become smaller and smaller. Therefore, people have to strengthen their service-oriented awareness, improve the service quality and explore the new service patterns. Currently HOSCO Logistics manages its system on the semi-computer and semi-manual basis. The system can't meet the requirement of the customers and keeping competitive in the market. Hence, the management information system is requried to be developed to satisfy this need.The thesis is targeted to HOSCO Logistics. It has conducted the detailed analysis on the business development trend of container transportation agencies and its requirement on the information systems. It has configured a comparatively complete system including document & operating, cost management and container management etc. finally it provides the advice on how to guarantee the successful implementation of the system.
