With society advancing into the post-industrialized era, people's consumption awareness is being enhanced and the their psychological needs and pursuit are more and more valued, bringing on its heel a unique design trend that considerately attends to aesthetic effects and people's emotional factors. While embodying people's efforts of re-prettifying their life against the backdrop of today's information-based society, such a design trend also triggers the research on human emotion and sensibility in designing. The products of immaterial design are not only the representation of tangible matters, but also the carrier of profound thoughts and emotions. The notion of products being sensible means that such sensibility comes not only from the products per se, but also the sensible experience and perception of the people tasting and using the products. The emotion from the design of products can be represented in two aspects: the sensibility represented by the appearance and function of the products, in other words, the products per se; and the sensibility evoked by the process of utilizing the products. The thesis presented here focuses on the emotional research in immaterial design in today's post-industrialized world. The author begins by introducing the research background, objectives and significance of the thesis. Modern people pursue the products that offer them psychological and emotional solace, help them materialize their self-value and enrich their daily life. In other words, we are seeking sensible experience through products. To achieve unfettered interpersonal emotional communication in designing these products is the integration of technology and arts in real sense. And only in this way can the profession of product design survive the new times. The author also contributes her efforts to the theoretical analysis of the emotion aspect in immaterial design pertinent to the literatures sustaining the thesis including the transformation of social configuration, immaterial design and the fields of its application, emotion essence, the affection of emotion factors to one's activities as well as the relationship between design and emotion. The focus of this part is the emotional representation in immaterial design.Concluding the thesis, the author has established a research framework for emotion research from the perspective of interaction between the users and products and innovatively introduced to readers Alessi's Success Formula for the appraisal of its own products. She also has carried out emotion study on the target products along with the detailed analysis of the Formula in the hope of proving the feasibility of the aforesaid research framework (the result does conform to author's anticipation). The author hopes that the research framework can be applied to the real design practice to contribute to an even completer and further enriched research framework for the study on the emotion of product design.
