With the rapid development of computer technology, information technology and network technology, product information and its traits are undergoing a fundamental change and playing an increasingly important role in the product design process. In order to find new ways and methods to manage product information in the product design process, The concept of 4D Product Information Model(4D-PIM) was presented. It is a digital information model of dynamic product evolutionary process on the basis of 3D Product Information Model, embedded design process as the time attribute. The constructing method of 4D-PIM based on hypergraph theory is studied. The main research work and results are as follows:1. Based on the research on the information characteristics of product design process, 4D-PIM is studied theoretically by means of hypergraph theory. Relational hypergraph network is introduced to express product information of product design process, the product structure information of 4D-PIM is described formally by hierarchical hypergraph, laying a solid foundation of constructing 4D-PIM.2. The composition of 4D-PIM is studied and the main characteristics of 4D-PIM are analyzed. The basic problems of building system and key technology of 4D-PIM are researched. The dynamic database of 4D-PIM is put forward and the basic functional modules of dynamic database are also studied.3. Based on hypergraph theory, weighted directed hypergraph model of the constructing of 4D-PIM is proposed. Through the further research on weighted directed hypergraph of product structure, the storage structure is given. The technology design based on weighted directed hypergraph is studied in 4D-PIM. According to weighted directed hypergraph, algorithms of the product structure information traversal, components affiliation, and the product structure comparison are further researched.4. Taking the parts of main axle of SLP vertical rotating crusher as an example, this paper describes the structure relationship between the product components by helps of hierarchical hypergraph. Meantime, the description of assembly of the product components formally is studied on the basis of weighted directed hypergraph, an effective way is supplied to realize the practical application of the constructing of 4D-PIM based on hypergraph theory.
