Facing the challenge of urbanism and motorization, traffic congestion has happened inmedium and small cities, not only in big cities. This paper based on the research work done byscholars home and abroad, attempts to provide solutions to the above-mentioned problem.Firstly, the paper collects a few means and information in cities of Yangzi River TriangleAreas, and analyzes the traffic characteristic from traffic elements and economic and socialelements, which involved in land-use, person, vehicle, road, economy, policy, and talent,focusing on analyzing the differences between big cities and medium and small cities. Fivepoints are summarized.Secondly, the paper reports the relationship of transportation system and land-use, andsummarizes the research achievement of urban spatial layout pattern and urban exploitationpattern. Based on specified introduce sustainable transportation pattern, considering the trafficcharacteristic of medium and small cities, it proposes the sustainable traffic developmentpattern, and analyzes the existing challenge.Thirdly, the paper researches on the travel demand characteristic of urban central district intheory, based on the concept of traffic improvement. From the angle of establishing thelong-term and stable transportation supply-demand balance, it proposes the congregation andoptimizing of urban road resource, the reasonable pattern between traffic and land-use, andtravel demand management.Lastly, the paper mainly researches on countermeasure from urban road network, publictransportation, static traffic system, and traffic management, taking examples in TrafficImprovement Countermeasure of Kunshan's Central District into account. A work andevaluation system is formed, which can be applied by medium and small cities.
