As an important control device to synchronous generator in electric power system,excitation system should be carefully tested both before leave-factory and after site installation.Therefore, the new excitation experiment measuring instrument with complete developmentfunctionandsimpleoperationisimperative.This article established a excitation experiment installation based on the virtual instrument.To construct the excitation experiment installation with the virtual instrument is domestically instill the number advanced technology. The installation adopts USB-bus DAQ and visibilityexploiting platform to design the software and hardware. We have proved that the installationcanworkwellbytheexperiments.The excitation experiment installation can do the field test. It carries on gathering, analysis,processing, anddemonstrationtothe electricityparameterdata, andobtains thetest result report.It can be used to inspect and help to adjust the excitation installment, which guaranteed thegenerator incorporating reliable investment and reliable movement. The excitation experimentinstallation not onlyreduces cost, but also is easyto operate. In the hardware circuit design, thisarticleindetail elaboratedthesignal conditioning circuit designingand illuminatedthechoiceofelectrical sensor and isolated amplifier. The data acquisition card choice, setting and writing thedriverprogram is illuminatedinthis article.Themeasureanti-jammingadoptedis considered. Inthe software design, the front panel and the block diagram program has been designed inLabVIEW7.1. In the data acquisition model the multi-channel continuous data acquisition isilluminated and in the program we have finished the data acquisition and saving in order. Thedisplay, saving and analysis program is gave. In the playbackmodel we analysed the principle ofreading the saved data and finished the playback, edit, analysis program. In the measurementmodel the choosed waveform is measured. In the print model the choosed waveforms andmeasurementdataisprinted.Atlast,wedidthreeexperimentinordertotestifythattheexcitationexperimentinstallationcanworkwell.
