With the application and development of electronic technique in automobile, the electron and intelligence in automobile is widely used. The traditional carburetor engine is gradually replaced by the electronic control engine, which has brought the very large challenge to the automobile maintenance profession. It has become questions which the present automobile maintenance profession urgent needs to solve that how to grasp the structure principle and the fault diagnosis methods of electronic control engine fleetly. It is a new method to use the waveform analysis in electronic control engine fault diagnosis. This method has good accuracy and high efficiency in engine fault diagnosis, and it becomes the development direction of automobile fault diagnosis method in present and in the future.This paper introduces the topic in details. At first, this paper introduces the general structure and working principle of electronic control engine, and then introduces the subsequent focus on the sensor waveform analysis and the actuator waveform analysis and the ignition system waveform analysis etc. The main parts of the sensor system are air flow-meter, intake manifold pressure sensor, crankshaft / camshaft position sensor, throttle position sensor, temperature sensor, knock sensor, oxygen sensor and speed sensor. The actuator system includes injector, the idle speed control valve, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control valve and activated carbon cans valve. The ignition system includes basic knowledge of waveform analysis, waveform analysis of ignition secondary voltage, waveform analysis of the initial ignition voltage, waveform analysis of the initial ignition current and dual-channel ignition waveform tests. Every part in the above system is introduced by several sub-models which are the waveform tests model, the normal wave model, waveform analysis model and fault waveform model.Then the components of the electronic control engine are shot by a number camera and saved into pictures. The topic simulates the working production of engine by making use of the animation tool Flash. Then the topic gains the parts normal and fault waveform by using the automobile oscilloscope when the engine is working. After that, the topic integrates the information and form electronic control engine waveform analysis system using the multimedia software Authorware7.0. At last, these data are burnt into CD-ROM to be published.With the complete of the whole system, it can guide the automobile maintenance staff not only studying new automobile technologies, but also using waveform analysis methods to diagnose electronic control engine faults. Meanwhile this system also provides uncommonly first-hand data for automobile maintenance profession.With this system, the operator can not only understand the condition of the engine, but also easily find the engine fault location. This can reduce the fault diagnosis time according to the large parts of the normal and fault waveform chart in system. Without a doubt, this method can give positive effects to reduce automobile operating costs and maintenance costs, and reduce the running cost.
