With the structure of electronic control engine has been becoming more and morecomplicated and the internal relations between each system has also more and more subtle,there are more multifarious faults in engine. The fault of electronic control engine is sochallenging that a single fault diagnostic technology or diagnostic method can not diagnose itcompletely, so the research emphasis has been shifted toward the combination of variousdiagnostic technologies or methods under the circumstances so as to search the reason of faultaccurately and rapidly.This paper centers on Volkswagen electronic control engine, set AJR and Passat B5typeengine as key objects of study, and makes experimental research of fault diagnosis with themthrough the way of combining data flow and waveform diagnostic methods, in order to searchfor an accurate and rapid new way for fault diagnosis of electronic control engine. The paperanalyzes the fault mechanism of main sensors, actuators and ignition system and sums up thecauses of their frequent faults and places often occurred in, based upon which data flow andwaveform diagnostic method are used respectively to make experimental research on faultdiagnosis for main sensors, actuators and ignition system at the platform composed by engine,X431diagnostic instrument, multimeter and engine integrated analyzer. The rules betweenfailure phenomena and the abnormal changes of diagnostic parameters and waveforms havebeen searched, and the deficiencies of data flow and waveform analysis methods have alsobeen searched at the same time. Then, making collaborative diagnostic experimental researchon relatively complicated faults by combining data flow and waveform based upon theresearch above, in order to sum up general rules that diagnose engine fault by means ofcooperation of data flow and waveform. Finally, diagnose the real fault vehicles inmaintenance enterprise field according to the general rules and some important experimentaldata summarized by experimental study, which verifies the veracity of experimental researchconclusions.
