China is a country in which the culture of city walls fully developed. Since the ancient times, the wall culture has been regulating people's life-styles and ideologies. The changing process of city walls has witnessed the development of the city. With the modernization of the city, the walls have used to be abandoned or even demolished as the symbol of conservation. Until now, to preserve the walls or to abandon them is still a controversial issue. Jingzhou city walls are one of the four ancient walls most preserved intact in China, as well as the most intact southern walls. With the fruitful literature and the first-hand investigation, the author aims to present and analyze Jingzhou city walls and the surroundings in the aspects of the historical culture, ecological landscape and the value of tourism. Meanwhile, the thesis put forward the corresponding suggestions in dealing with the problems of the city walls and the surroundings during the development of the city.Part one is the introduction. It deals with the background and significance of this study defining some related concepts and putting forward the research methods and framework.The second part is to review and summarize the historical changes and developments of Jingzhou city walls providing the evidences of the objective evaluation of the city walls and the surroundings.In the third part, according to the characteristics of the city walls and the surroundings, the author tries to conduct the value evaluation in the perspectives of historical culture, ecological landscape and tourism.Part four is to analyze and generalize the current situation and shortcomings through the detailed investigation.In the fifth part above study, the use of Authenticity principle of the protection of cultural heritage and historical relics protection of the integrity and local principles for the protection of assessed updated recommendations. The author proposes the Jingzhou city walls should be protected on the basis of the protection of the city as a whole. After that update, the first to use the theory of landscape view corridor walls surrounding environment and the rectification of the visual landscape, and then applying the theory of light-City Ecology Park, the overall damage to the environment, the final recommendations are based on the theory places the walls surrounding environment of the urban context and historical heritage. In section IV is primarily related to the protection of public policies to update a few suggestions : to promote cultural integration, encourage public participation, and strengthening the building of the legal system. Through the above recommendations, and ultimately to achieve Jingzhou wall surrounding the protection of the environment and regeneration.The last part is the conclusion. The author gets the conclusion through the resummarization.
