Research Of The Architectural Education In Hangchow University

Hangchow University was a Church-Run University set up by the organizations of American Christian. The university set up the architectural department in 1938, which was one of the earliest architecture educations in China, and it experienced a changeful course because of the wars, finaly it merged into the architectural department of Tongji University in 1952. Wang haupin Pearson and Benjamin Chin Chen assumed the head one after another, and many famous architects, engineers and artists joined to teaching. The department had great effect in the architectural field of East-China region.The paper introduces all the history, teachers and educational condition first, then focus on the educational system by analyzing the origin, content and characters, and shows the direct effect of the architectural department of University of Pennsylvanias to it, and its changes in different backdrop, especially the modern architecture trend. At last, the paper analyses the attribute of the education and the effect from a position of architectural industry or society, so as to comprehend its status and value.
