The studio teaching mode based on experienced teachers as the core, around a specific project organizing a certain number of students with relevant practice, discussion and design. The studio methods assist the students understand how to think, act and express like an architect, these future architects will be in the form of their personal work attitude and study way. The studio teaching mode advocate the combination of theory with practice and the cultivation of creative thinking.The design teaching mode of architecture function type dominate a long time from the lower grade design basis courses to senior architectural design course in China. It leads students to their short practice of innovation ability, understanding ability and operation ability. But in recent years the many domestic schools are reforming the Chinese architectural education, and trying for the studio teaching mode.This paper firstly reviews the history of the studio teaching development in Europe, America and China. Secondly the regulation of contemporary studio mode will be summarized based on collection, comparison and analysis of data of contemporary architectural school. Thirdly mainly three practice models will be introduced. Finally the author will evaluate the value of studio teaching mode and the enlightenment for contemporary Chinese architectural education.
