Since China's reform and opening, road industry in China has been developed in an amazing fast speed. Engineers developed many new ways and methods out of the problems due to old construction ways. Semi-rigid base, which was commonly used, was found leading to problems like wheel track, erosion, frost boil, slurry and lump. Engineers had to search for a new base structure, thus flexible base was developed. Flexible base base has high shear strength and anti-fatigue property. The special property could help eliminate problems we have on asphalt pavement (such as reflective crack) and semi-rigid base. The author high appreciates the property, and believes this property could bring good return on economic benefit and road research if well used. This paper, based on project Test and Research on Asphalt Pavement Technical Parameter under Communication Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, introduces the author's research on structure technical parameter of asphalt pavement flexible base.The author, after studying on related research achievement both in and abroad, uses two asphalt-stabilized aggregate gradations in his research, China ATB-25 grading and Britain -25 grading. Semi-flexible pavement is introduced in the paper. The author replaces part of mine power in both gradations; compare the test result of each to see the advantages and disadvantages of flexible base. The author, based on a mass of laboratory experimental data, summarizes 3 design parameters of asphalt-stabilized aggregate: wheel track index, strength index and shear strength. The test verifies high-temperature stability, water stability, mechanic property, and shear strength index. The author uses uniaxial penetration, a simpler method other than triaxial to test the shear strength of asphalt mixture. Besides, relationship between dynamic stability and shear strength is developed.
