With the continual development of domestic economy and the process of urbanization, highway traffic shows characteristics of growing diversity and complexity. The traffic problems are continuing to emerge. After urbanization, the transformation of highways to urban roads has become one of the main ways to solve the traffic problems. However, at present, there are no unified models for urbanization transformation of highway, nor many specialized literatures for reference. It is difficult to meet the requirements of rapid development of highway urbanization. Based on a typical demonstration project of urbanization transformation of highway in Shenzhen City - the urbanization of a Guangdong provincial highway called S360 He-Long Line, the problem was studied systematically, and the general practices of urbanization transformation of highway were summed up in this thesis, so as to other urbanization transformation of highways for reference.Firstly, the background and status about these projects at home and abroad were introduced in this thesis. Through the evaluation and analysis of the status of regional society, economy, and the road networks, the function of the project was determined. And then, making use of the status of society, economy, traffic flow and traffic forecasted data, using four-dimensional searching methods of iterative calculations, this thesis forecasted the traffic, and determined the design standards of main line, auxiliary roads, non-motor vehicle roads, sidewalks and other components of the project, and identified the works programme. After that, the investment amount for the project was estimated. Finally, the key technical and management issues about the urbanization transformation of highway were conducted to analysis and conclusion in-depth, and a realistic and practical approach and attention issues were put forward. Practices of the project show that the methods of this thesis to resolve the problems caused by the urbanization transformation of highway are reasonable and effective.
