As an integrated platform for enterprises information,PDM has been applied to more and more enterprises. But,at present, most of the PDM systems adopt conventional C/S mode. Those systems based on this mode have such defaults as difficulty in installing or upgrading or maintaining software, weak adaptability to system, inconvenience to use,and hard to transplant, etc. Furthermore, the practical requirements of enterprises, that development of those PDM systems should move from level, at which throwing emphasis on management and share of data during designing period to enterprise level, at which we pay more attention to the whole procedure, that the system could integrate existing application systems adequately, and call for information of trans-regional product data, all these ask for re-building of PDM system. The paper ,on the basis of the analysis of domestic and foreign products the status and under domestic product data management (PDM) system and the insufficient domestic SMEs own characteristics, use of distributed database technology,CORBA technology, the OMT techniques, design and development of the country suitable for SMEs can step implementation PDMS , and design the database design and development, database interfaces with the CORBA design, modular design and related key technical functions carried out a detailed exposition of file system management , systems management , product structure and configuration management, workflow management, project management, and other functions. The innovative of the paper is a point of the smallest core PDM system to meet their own capital for SMEs less, the fast changes in the characteristics of the use of force in the economic strength and technological constraints of SMEs.
