The high requirement of reliability and continuity of power automation system makes it necessary to work all the time without any interruption. However, it is difficult to completely avoid the faults caused by human and non-human factors in the running system. Therefore, the online standby running is an important and indispensiblc function of power automation system. SoftBus that is developed by iKSLab according to the features of power automation system is a platform for services management and a middleware for data communication, which is particularly suitable for the online standby running of power automation system. With the rapid development and wide application of IEC61970standard in power automation system, providing CORBA-based CIS services is becoming a crucial demand of power automation system. The CORBA-based CIS services also need to improve its reliability and continuity through the online standby running.This paper firstly researches different methods of online standby running for the CORBA-based CIS services and then realizes the online standby running of CORBA services managed by SoftBus, which not only provides convenient online standby management for power automation system and achieves the high reliability of CORBA-based services, but also expands and completes service modes managed by SoftBus.The first step is to explore the feasibility of implementing CORBA-based services on the basis of flexible and transport services management mechanism of SoftBus. Then two ways are presented to achieve the SoftBus-based online standby running for CORBA services. One is implementation within CORBA-based client; the other is implementation by expanding functions of SoftBus. Both of them can accomplish the access to CORBA-based services with their names and when the main server is transformed into the standby server, the CORBA-based client will change access to server automatically.In order to realize the transport switching of services for the CORBA client without any treatment when the main server is transformed into the standby server, this paper perfects the implementation by expanding functions of SoftBus and raises an object reference substitution mechanism. With the module and service management functions as well as the implementation mechanism of SoftBus, a CORBA-based server mode is mtided on the basis of three existing service modes to broaden module and service management of SoftBus. Finally, by the example of iES-CIM system, this paper shows that the improved implementation of expanding functions of SoftBus is feasible and practicable in online standby running for CORBA-based services.
