| Since the 21st century, with the development of knowledge economy, China has increased the educational investment to advance the university construction due to the more visible promotional effect of science and technology on productivity. The high tide of university construction has been raised around the country, which is impulsing the development of higher education and campus planning layout. At the same time, the education modes and goals of university have also changed correspondingly and this emphasizes the combination of education and practical production.Under this background, Chinese universities strengthened the communication between themselves and social environment and their entrance areas reflected the change of this kind of interior and exterior relationship from another profile as a transition from exterior environment to universities. Since the uniqueness of entrance area of university campus and the limitation of its cognition resulted in the lack of relative research, it was difficult to truly understand the social connotation that the entrance area of university campus really held and the rule behind its evolutional process. Consequently, in order to propose the instructional opinion of entrance area design in the future, with a profound consideration from the history of entrance area of university campus, the evolutional rule should be concluded from history and current situations.At the opening of this paper, the entrance areas of university campus on different era backgrounds were introduced, sorted and analyzed. The correlative influential factors were classified in the following part where their mutual relationships were also clarified. On this basis, with the analysis of the mutual effects between different factors and the influence on the entrance area evolution, the evolution rule of entrance area of university campus was derived. In the end, using this rule analyzed the evolution process of entrance area of Tongji University campus.
