| China's ancient stone arch bridge has a long history and outstanding achievements. In the world it has a reputation in the history of bridge, especially in the Three Gorges reservoir area for the stone arch bridge. Most of the existing bridges were damaged to varying degrees for various reasons. Therefore, it is a serious problem how to protect these stone arch bridges effectively. Specific measures and methods on protecting the ancient stone bridge in the Three Gorges reservoir area and the feasibility and effect in the practical protection were mainly discussed in this paper.The origin, development, structural components, construction methods of the ancient stone arch bridge were firstly elaborated on in this paper. The existing destruction and the causes of the stone arch bridge as well as destabilizing factors were analyzed. On this basis, the specific protective measures and the reinforcement methods were proposed.An actual project- the relocation of of Qing Dynasty was taken for example. Specific measures and methods on protecting the ancient stone bridge and the feasibility and effect in the practical protection were mainly discussed in this paper.The finite element analysis model was established for LuAn bridge relocated. Its capacity of being forced and deformation was studied through computation and its safety was assessed. The results show that the reinforced concrete arch bears the majority of loading and stone arch no longer plays a major role in bearing the load. The aims designed was achieved.The proposed concrete measures to reinforce the Three Gorges reservoir area on the relocation of the overall protection of stone arch bridge is an effective way to other stone arch bridge in the area of protection of certain reference value. Specific measures and methods proposed in this paper were well applied to protect the ancient stone bridge in the Three Gorges reservoir area. It has certain reference value to protecting other stone arch bridge in the area.
