Stone arch bridge is China's traditional structure of the bridge, which has numerous advantages such as low cost, simple construction technology and great carrying potential. A large number of small long-span stone arch bridges had been built in the national and province route since the 1960s and 1970s. After decades of operation, the typical diseases such as . weathered surface, vertical and horizontal cracking etc. has appearanced and becomes the potential threat to the bridge's security operations. Because this bridge has a huge number, a feasible economic reinforcement technology is urgent need to enhance the potential carrying. The arch surround method is a new reinforcement technology which has many advantages such as reasonable technology, feasible construction, and significant social and economic benefits. Therefore, the arch surround method is a powerful means to resolve this existent contradiction. However, the question of ascertaining the thickness of new arch ring exists some experience and lacks theoretical basis. The paper based on the actual arch bridge strengthening works studied the method of assertaining the thickness of the new arch ring by means of numerical simulation and summed the key construction technology. The main research results are as follows:(1) The examples of segment arch bridge and catenary arch bridge were calculated according to the code and the paper assessed the old stone arch bridge's carrying capacity according to "Highway Bridge Carrying Capacity Detection and Assesses Regulations". The carrying capacity computational check means of arch ring reinforced were put forward based on the active code.(2) ANSYS finite element analysis software were used to put forward the new recommend arch ring thicknesses of different span bridges respectively on occasions of whether new arch ring and original arch ring is close contact or not.(3) ANSYS finite element analysis software were used to analysis the most disadvantaged sections stress change law of new arch ring and original arch ring on occasions of four different contact state and the ANSYS model was based on a certain arch stone arch bridge strengthening works.(4) The key technologies of layout design, construction technology, and quality control were summed and promoted based on the detailed analysis of the typical disease.
