The Discussion On The Planning And Design Of Garden Shows

A garden show,also called garden festival or horticultural EXPO,is a fair with strong garden and horticultural theme and presence. Garden shows make popular the garden art,extend the landscape market and give opportunities to the landscape architects. At the same time,garden shows play more important roles in improving city environment,perfecting green space system and public open space system,stimulating the new urban districts,and regenerating the declining areas of the cities.So far,there are many kinds of garden shows in many countries,with different sizes and levers,so to China. Expo'99 in Kunming was China's first international horticultural exhibition,which was also a beginning establishment of wave tide of garden shows. Described as"catalysts"and "midwives",garden shows are intended to both stimulate development and steer design on the site. A successful garden show, and a sustainable after-use,can not get away from an ex-period to have far-sight of planning and design. So it is important to disscuss the planning and design of the garden shows.With retrospection on some important examples in all of the worlds,this paper takes planning and design strategies as the studying object,and also sums up strategies of existing garden shows. In addition,with the analysis of the essence characteristics of garden shows and their planning and design,this paper is to summarize and discuss the landscape planning and design strategy from the aims,site location,the space system construction,the garden shows' design and after-use. The whole contents,with the analyse of theories and cases,will concrete the ways of garden shows' planning and design,and submit the landscape planning strategies to present some references that can be used for the construction and planning work of Chinese urban landscape.
