With the development of electronic, spaceflight and mechanical engineering, intelligentstructure is researched by many countries in the world. In recent years, many new developedfunctional materials not only find their wide use in the area of intelligent structures, but alsopromote the research of intelligent structures as well. A kinetic model describing onecantilever beam that is adhered with PZT actuator/sensor is established in this thesis. Base onthis model, active vibration control laws and location of actuators is researched. The main contributions of this thesis are listed as follows:1. The concepts and applications of intelligent materials and structures are introducedbriefly. The present situation and development of piezoelectric active vibrationcontrol technology are analyzed.2. Base on piezoelectric theory, a cantilever beam being adhered with actuator/sensor ismodeled. Driving and sensing characteristics of PZT are analyzed.3. Several active vibration control laws which are widely used in the field of intelligentstructure are analyzed. The effects of the control laws are simulated withsoftware-MATLAB. A novel method that is integrated with independent/coupledmode and LQR method is put forward in this thesis.4. The location style and actuator's characteristics are researched by simulation results.Using genetic arithmetic, the location of actuators is optimized based on the modelthat is established in this thesis.
