Substation supervisory system is of vital importance for the safety and reliability of substation operation. In order to construct a full open distributed information communication network which has high speed and reliability, the real time image supervisory technology should be applied in substation operation management besides the conventional four-remote supervisory system.The conventional substation communication system based on field bus and Ethernet is studied in the paper, and then a communication transformation device is designed with serial bus and CAN field bus which has multi-interface and can interconnect heterogeneous network. Interconnection among low-speed serial bus, field bus and high-speed Ethernet is achieved by the proposed device.After analyzing communication transformation device structure, the interface design is developed for the Ethernet, CAN and RS485. Furthermore, multi-task scheduling is applied in the software implementation of the communication transformation device, which realizes communication among different tasks with message queue. Meanwhile, image transmission is achieved through Ethernet based on the technology of MPEG-2 video compression.
