Sin kiang is the earthquake activity area in our country. Since last century, the strong earthquakes (ms≥6) occur in Sin kiang more than 80 times. The housing condition of town and country residents, which has low earthquake-resistant capacity, is poor in part areas, especially in rural areas in Sin kiang. Once there is a large earthquake in these areas, it is sure to cause enormous loss. Put the quake-proof and comfortable housing project into effect, thoroughly modify and construct domestics in multiple and liable earthquakes areas, and upgrade earthquake-resistant standard, get rid of earthquake disaster incipient fault, are the effective path to reduce the loss caused by earthquake.New typical structure building of gypsum and adobe walls refered by this article is the lately building structure researched by Sin kiang quake-proof and comfortable housing project. We conform to the principle of "adjust measures to local conditions,use local materials, facility and availability, economical and reasonable", use gypsum and adobe as the main wall materials to construct the building according to the advantage that the south Sin kiang have abundant gypsum resources and any other factor like ecological balance, forest protection, and climate drying.New typical structure building of gypsum and adobe walls is a bran-new structure. We have studied the mechanical property,seismic behavior of gypsum and adobe walls and seismic response of the whole building under different intensity by compression test,horizontal cyclic loading test and shaking table test.the main works could be arrived as follows:(1) Analyzied the failure characteristics of gypsum and adobe walls by test, and get the mechanical property index of gypsum and adobe walls like compressive strength,elastic modulus and poisson ratio,and provide the basis for theory study and calculate.(2) Studied the seismic behavior of gypsum and adobe walls,and the result shows that the failure model of gypsum and adobe walls is shear failure model, cracks primary pass internal of adobe bricks, and the main cracks form are X form inclined cracks. The displacement increased abruptly after craze,indicated the wall's failure characteristic is brittle failure, seismic capacity and energy dissipation capacity is not well,and need improve and enhance.(3) The shaking table test of gypsum and adobe walls building model structure shows that this monolayer small bay building has great integrality, gypsum and adobe bricks coheres well,could work together,and could satisfying the demand of Sin kiang quake-proof and comfortable housing project,but the weakness of this building are foursquare,door and window openings,so and should be improved by some aseismic measures like setting constructional columns and so on.The study of this article provides some accordance for the generalization of Sin kiang quake-proof and comfortable housing project. It will make an important role to spread use this structure of building, accelerate rapid and sound development of Sin kiang, guarantee people's life and property safety, and construct a harmonious, beautiful Sin kiang.
