Steel reinforced concrete special-shaped columns structure has much evident superiority. By containing shape steel, the SRC special-shaped columns can overcome the weakness of reinforced concrete special-shaped columns, such as lack of bearing capacity, poor seismic performance, and low axial compression ratio. It extends greater suitable scope for using of special-shaped columns. It is difficult to calculate for design, because of the irregular and complex section. So the study on practical design method of SRC special-shaped columns is very necessary.Based on experimental study of SRC special-shaped columns, the principle of section size selecting is analyzed. Then the thickness of concretet which is safty, reasonable and economical is studied. By analyzing several ordinary section steel layout forms, the principle of section shape steel layout is given. By adding shape steel in section, the cross-section bearing capacity of SRC special-shaped column is greater at least 30% than RC special-shaped column, when the steel ratio is no less than 5%. Although the axial compression ratio of SRC special-shaped columns is almost the same as RC pecial-shaped columns, the bearing compression improved noticeably because of containing shape steel in section. With the computing program for calculating the bearing capacity of SRC special-shaped columns, which is established by using finite element numerical iterative method, the M—N interaction curve and M_x—M_y interaction curve can be calculated. And the results could be used in the design of SRC special-shaped columns. The comparisong between computation and experimental results shows satisfactory agreement. The section of SRC special-shaped columns should be simplified in order to using the accumulative method, and the calculating results shows its safty and agreement. Finally, according to the related studies, the shear bearing capacity of SRC special-shaped columns is analyzed.
