In recent years, with rapid development of economy of our country, many bridges are built over the inland navigation channels. Contribution of cross river bridge is beneficial to the development of both sides and surrounding areas and also to enhance the competitiveness of city. So it has far reaching strategic significance for the development of local economy and society. Meanwhile, ship traffic volume of the important channels including the civil inshore and Yangzi River has been increased rapidly. The complexity of navigation management in the bridge waterway has kept rising because growing vessel traffic flow. If there is a traffic accident in the channel that could cause traffic jam and close the navigation of inland channel, it could cause economic loss which requires a higher standard on channel programming and safety management in the bridge waterway.The research of transit capacity is the groundwork for the channel programming and navigation management in the bridge waterway. By studying the transit capacity in the bridge waterway, the impacts on the transit capacity causing by the contribution of bridge could be assessed, and the maximum transit capacity could be calculated under the normal navigation conditions. The research could provide a scientific basis for the channel programming, navigation channel regulation and navigation management in the bridge waterway which is able to meet the growing needs of shipping and transportation.In this thesis, the calculation method of transit capacity of channel has been improved legitimately after comparing and analyzing the deficiency of the past research. By analyzing the influencing factors and selecting corresponding modified coefficient integrating the transportation characteristic and navigable feature, the mathematic model of transit capacity has been built. In studying transit capacity processes, the mathematic theories including mathematical statistics and operational research have been applied, and the corresponding theories and analytical methods in the traffic engineering and marine traffic engineering have been used as a source of reference.This article altogether has been divided into seven chapters. In accordance with systemic viewpoint and the practical need of production , the author refers the achievements of the past researches, What's more, this paper has analyzed the main influencing factors which are composed of natural conditions, artificial conditions, transportation conditions personnel conditions etc, and set up the mathematical model which has been applied to calculate the transit capacity in the Sutong Bridge waterway. In the end it is the conclusion and the forecast.
