Urban waterfront redevelopment agrees to the times and is following the improvement of urban function. This paper takes the relational mechanism between the urban waterfront redevelopment and the improvement of urban function as a master line, involving the theoretical plane, the practical plane as well as the case plane. The paper consists of six chapters.Chapter one is the introduction. This chapter mainly introduces the objective and basis for the selection of the theme, the research dynamic of the urban waterfront redevelopment in domestic and foreign, as well as the framework and the method and so on.Chapter two analyzes the development process of the urban renewal in domestic and foreign firstly. Secondly, this chapter analyzes the waterfront development, the type, model and features of the waterfront redevelopment, as well as the waterfront redevelopment in china. Lastly, this chapter analysis the relational mechanism between the urban waterfront redevelopment and the improvement of urban function from theoretical plane, on the basis of analyzing the urban functions development and evolution. Chapter four and five take the C unit in the south of the Huangpu river in Shanghai as a case, and persent that the function development of the C unit will be an economic function-oriented comprehensive upgrade.Chapter four launches from the function reconstruction and the industrial restructuring. This chapter analyzes the three dimensions of reconstruction and the four level of function improvement in the C unit, and elaborates the improvement of the urban economy function and the cultural function with emphasis. The chapter persents that the C unit is most suitable to induct the aviation service industry, the aviation culture industry and the aviation tourism industry to realize the regional economic revitalization and cultural remodeling.Chapter five launches from the development in space and path of the urban function. This chapter anlyzes the spatial structure and the corresponding development strategy of the C unit, in the foundation of establishing land unit development theory. The C unit is divided into 11 development units. This chapter proposes three development concepts, space development model and strategy, as well as unit development strategy, and has given two alternate unit development succession briefly.Chapter six is the conclusion.
