With the worldwide raise awareness of environmental protection, the impacts of transmission network on its surroundings were concerned more, which could increase the cost of line. The environment aspects should be considered during transmission planning. Traditionally, the cost of line is estimated on basis of straight line path and average cost, considering few environmental impacts on transmission lines, therefore the environmental cost could not be included accurately. As the state and society paying increased attention to environment, this method does not work in the new condition. Studies on path optimization were made to gas, roads, power grids etc. to reduce investment and harmful geographical, ecological and communication impacts. On basis of research results, this paper employs path optimization methods to estimate the cost and length of line. Beginning with analysis of interaction between transmission and environment, this paper propose a method of path optimization include environmental factors: on a grid-map, pattern diagnosis theory is used to quantify cost of each cell; then an improved ACO algorithm is employed to solve the problem; finally, an example proves the accuracy and effectiveness of the method.
